Nanga Farms Limited is a large irrigated sugarcane estate situated approximately 25 km northeast of Mazabuka in the Southern Province of Zambia. The company is a subsidiary of Zambia Sugar Plc and part of the ABF Sugar Group, with activities including the cultivation of 2,860 hectares of sugarcane and the rearing of approximately 1,400 head of cattle.

Nanga Farms Limited invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Handyman Fitter.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of mechanical and irrigation equipment on a continuous basis and take responsibility for failures resulting from inadequate equipment-specific inspection.
• Undertake troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) processes.
• Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the Work Order is diligently followed according to the work-order tasks.
• Execute work and allocate resources for stop days, shutdowns and off-crop jobs, while communicating requirements and daily progress to the supervisor.
• Assist in drawing materials from Stores and signing material gate passes.
• Liaise with centre pivot and pump station operators when carrying out maintenance work and during handover.
• Maintain adequate housekeeping standards in all workstations.
• Undertake standby duties and call-outs as instructed by the Foreman or according to the set roster.
• Report any accidents immediately through the normal reporting procedure.
• Carry out safety inspections for mechanical and irrigation equipment.
• Identify personal learning and development needs and coach and mentor other maintenance workers.
• Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
• Promote and adhere to business procedures, policies and guidelines, including those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Knowledge & Skills Required

• Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and safety practices.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Craft Certificate in Water Supply or Craft Certificate in Agricultural Mechanics.
• Minimum of two years' post-qualifying experience in a similar position.
• Good interpersonal skills, personal organisation and a high level of integrity.
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• Membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.
